International Conference & Registration
Dear madam / sir,
We would like to invite you and/or your organisation to participate in the
Chilean Adoptees Worldwide online event which will be held on the 4th of December, 2021 together with the Chilean based organisation: “Nos Buscamos”
“INTERNATIONAL CHILEAN ADOPTEES CONFERENCE”
Our organisations main objective is to hold conferences that will be periodically run every 2 months. We believe it is important to maintain constant communica8on between the ‘Victims of Illicit Adoption and Child Trafficking’, and all the parties involved.
The conference will be held in English and Spanish in order to reach a broader audience worldwide.
“What was the mindset of the Chilean government during the 70s, 80s and 90s, that facilitated children to become adoptable during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet?
Listen to the presentation of Karen Alfaro who will tell about this subject which is based upon her in-depth investigations through the recent years.”
Karen Alfaro
Historian and Academic at the Institute of History and Social Sciences of the “Universidad Austral de Chile”. She has researched and published articles on the forced adoptions of Chilean children during the Pinochet dictatorship.
“It is assumed that in more than 50 years, from the 1970s to the present, approximately 20,000 children born in Chile have been adopted to Italy.
The adoption phenomenon has undergone many evolutions in recent years, but the most significant was in the year 2000 when the reform of the adoption law came into force in Italy. Before that time, although adoption was regulated, it was susceptible to do-it-yourself, whereas after the year 2000, controls were much tighter and more rigorous. We will see how this evolution has produced changes and how these have been perceived.”
Margarita Soledad Assettati (Chilean adoptee and Representative of CAW)
Italian based psychologist and psychotherapist, specialized in the field of adoption, family placement and child and family protection. Her professional career is multifunctional: clinical-therapeutic, legal and educational. She is responsible for a clinical center focused on the support of children and families and she actively collaborates with public and private organizations.
At last notice, Jon Thorbjörnson has also advised to be participating again. He will inform about the recent development that came into the news: Sweden will start an investigation into intercountry adoptions in the past for several countries. Among those countries: Chile.
Jon is a Swedish deputy of the Swedish Parliament who has helped to push the Chilean adoption cases in Sweden to be investigated.
To register for the event, please follow the form below and a Zoom link will be emailed to you in the days before the event.
